4 Tips For Storing Cannabis

Purchasing high-quality cannabis from a reputable supplier ensures you're getting a product you'll enjoy. However, even the best cannabis can quickly go stale if you store it improperly. Cannabis is a natural product, which means it needs delicate care to preserve its active properties. Fortunately, excellent cannabis storage solutions don't need to be complicated or expensive. Use these four tips to make your cannabis last longer.

1. Keep it in a dark place.

Sunlight contains powerful ultraviolet rays that can be incredibly damaging to cannabis. UV rays can begin to break down THC, one of the active components of the cannabis bud. You can prevent this by storing your cannabis in a dark place. Placing it in a drawer or closet is preferable to leaving it laying out on the counter. You can also purchase a container tinted amber, green, or another dark color to block even more light.

2. Store it in smaller quantities.

Buying cannabis in bulk is economical. It's usually more inexpensive to buy larger quantities at the dispensary. However, you introduce air and light into your cannabis stash every time you open the container. Preserve your cannabis as much as possible by storing it in smaller quantities. Ideally, you should store it in containers that hold only as much cannabis as you think you'll use in a week. This will cut down on air exposure and leave you with fresh cannabis for longer.

3. Place it in oxygen free storage jars.

Oxygen can dry out your cannabis and cause it to become stale. Even containers with airtight seals contain oxygen, which means your cannabis will eventually dry out when stored in containers like mason jars. Fortunately, you can purchase oxygen free storage jars. These glass jars form an airtight seal and feature an opening you can use to remove oxygen using a special vacuum. This vacuum seal will keep your cannabis as fresh as possible for a long time.

4. Keep it in the freezer.

Some people have good luck with keeping their cannabis in the freezer. This can be particularly useful if you live somewhere that gets hot in the summer. Excessive heat is bad for cannabis, and many areas reach triple digit temperatures during certain parts of the year. If you do keep your cannabis in the freezer, make sure to keep it away from any sources of moisture, which can cause your cannabis to become soggy.
